ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
INITIATIVES TO REDUCE WASTE AND IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT
The health and safety of the environment is important to us all. At Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa, we are committed to investing in the technologies and applying practical solutions to help reduce waste, conserve energy, and protect natural resources. Our goal is to provide authentic and comfortable experience for our guests while minimizing the environmental impact. In fact, the vast majority of Hyatt’s sustainability practices are transparent to our guests, yet they play an important role in preserving and protecting our environment. An overview of our efforts is described below.
FRONT OFFICE
Our front office provided a paperless check-in process reducing paper consumption. We also sanitize and reuse electronic key cards.
GUEST ROOMS
Your comfort is our priority, Energy and water conserving technologies ensure the highest quality experience for our guests while reducing waste. Lamps using compact fluorescent light bulbs provide exceptional and efficient illumination. Low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators provide outstanding flow yet require less water consumption. Guests can further contribute to conservation measures by participating in a voluntary towel and sheet reuse program, whereby your room is refreshed daily and linens replaced upon request.
LANDSCAPING AND GOLF
We utilize a wide range of environmentally sensitive landscaping techniques that add beauty and character while conserving natural resources. Indigenous Texas plants are grown throughout the resort reducing the need for excessive irrigation and chemical application. Ground moisture monitors on resort grounds and the golf courses prevent over watering. The Hill Country Golf Club was the first golf course with the distinction of Audubon Certification within the state of Texas. We have held this recognition since 1995. This certification means that our golf course maintains the highest degree of environmental quality while providing a safe habitat for native wildlife.
LAUNDRY AND HOUSEKEEPING
In our resort’s laundry department, electronic chemical controls ensure efficient use of detergents. Once out of circulation, old towels and linens are reused as cleaning rags or donated to local animal shelters. Our housekeeping staff collects partially used amenities including shampoo and toilet paper for donation to Clean the World and local community resource centers.
RESTAURANTS & CATERING
Whenever possible, we support the local economy and the environment by featuring locally and organically grown foods. Several of our restaurants and some spa treatments include herbs and produce grown on property in our Chef’s Herb Garden.
SALES AND MARKETING
The marketing department seeks out vendors that are respectful of our environment. Sales and marketing materials are printed on recycled paper stock when available. Soy-based and environmentally friendly inks are used on brochures and folders when possible. For machinery where soy-based inks cannot be used, we require that all imaging fluids are recycled. All in-house printing cartridges are recycled. TO reduce the amount of paper used for collateral, electronic versions are created for mass distribution. Staff is asked to conserve printed copies and to direct inquires to our website for electronic download. We utilize local vendors and print companies to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Hotel policies, training programs, technologies, and attentive management all contribute to the ever-growing ways Hyatt works to reduce environmental impact and resource consumption. However, many of our most significant advances are behind the scenes. For example he Hyatt Regency Hill Country has an extensive waste reduction program. Our preventative maintenance program improves efficiency and extends the useful life of equipment. We invest in advanced heating and cooling systems to optimize guest comfort while reducing greenhouse emissions and energy consumption. Perhaps most importantly, we share our commitment to the environment with all Hyatt colleagues. We offer a wide range of training, education and awareness programs to continually improve our conservation efforts.
